• How To Cook Single Boiled Rice

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup rice (Ramajeyam BPT/Sona Masuri – Single Boiled Rice)
    • 4 cups of water

    Method

    • Wash the rice and soak it in some water for 30 minutes
    • Add water in a pan and bring it to a boiling point
    • Lower the flame and add rice
    • Close the pan with a lid and let it cook for 10 minutes or till the rice is soft and cooked. You should be able to crush a grain of rice easily between the fingers
    • Remove from the flame, drain out excess water and serve

    Tips

    • You can add salt as per your taste
    • You can drain the rice in a colander and use the water for other purposes

    How To Cook Boiled Rice In Pressure Cooker

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup rice (Ramajeyam BPT/Sona Masuri – Single Boiled Rice)
    • 3 cups water

    Method

    • Wash the rice and soak it in some water for 30 minutes
    • Use a five litre pressure cooker and place the bottom plate which comes with the cooker
    • Add water enough to cover the plate (approx 2 cups)
    • Take an appropriate steel vessel and add soaked rice and 3 cups of water. It should only fill half way
    • Place the vessel in the pressure cooker and close the cooker
    • Wait till steam comes out from the valve and then place the weight
    • Let it cook for 3 whistles and remove from the flame
    • Set it aside for at least 15-20 minutes so that the pressure comes down

    Tips

    • You can add more water and give 2 more whistles if you want the rice to be more soft and mushy

    Ingredients

    • Ramajeyam idli rice – 4 cups
    • Urad Dal/White Lentil – 1 cup
    • Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp
    • Salt to taste

    Method

    • Wash and soak the rice in a bowl with enough water for 4-5 hours
    • Wash and soak urad dal along with fenugreek seeds in a separate bowls for 4-5 hours
    • Firstly grind the soaked urad dal with enough water to make a smooth batter
    • Next grind the rice with enough water
    • Transfer the content in a pan and add some salt to taste and mix it well. If you feel the batter is too thick, add some more water and keep it overnight or keep it outside for 7-8 hours for fermentation
