Chickpeas

Ingredients:

  1. Raw rice – 1 cup
  2. Water – 2 +1/2 cups
  3. Boiled and cooked Chickpeas – 1 cup
  4. 1 onion (peeled and chopped)
  5. Cumin seeds –1 tsp
  6. Black Cardamom – 2
  7. Bay leaf – 2
  8. Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  9. Garam Masala – 1 tsp
  10. Ginger finely chopped – 1 tsp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Cooking oil – 2 tbsp
  13. Washed and chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

  1. Wash and soak rice in water for 20 minutes. Drain the water completely and cook the rice in a pan with 2+1/2 cups of water on low flame. Cook till the rice is soft and cooked.
  2. Spread the rice on a plate and let the rice cool down completely.
  3. Add oil in heavy bottom pan and when oil is warm add cumin seeds, ginger, onions, bay leaf, black cardamom and sauté till onions turn translucent.
  4. Now add chickpeas, garam masala, and red chili powder and mix it well.
  5. Lower the flame and add rice and salt to taste and mix it gently.
  6. Remove from the flame, garnish with coriander leaves and serve it with some Raita.
